Searching For Boat Insurance?

Boat Insurance is happy to help you search for great boat insurance that suits your needs. There are a variety of companies that provide boat insurance, so you do have a choice. In most cases it is important to look at the price but also at what the contract includes.  So please have a look below before getting your insurance quote.

Important points on boat insurance to consider:

1. Agreed or Market value?

Do they give you a choice and how does the policy premium differ?

  • Agreed value – means the amount that has been agreed upfront that will be paid for the boast in the event of total loss or damage. This can be useful if you have upgraded your boat and it is worth a lot more then the market value
  • Market value – means in the event of total loss or damage you will be paid up to the the companies assessment of the sale value of your boat prior to the loss.

2. Does it have the option of  a “Laid Up” discount?

Some people may only use their boat occasionally or maybe not at all. In these cases you may be entitled to a discount with some companies.

3. Does it give you a choice of repairer?

You may have a certain company that you would like to use if you need repairs. Does the insurance give you this option or will they select the repairer for you?

4. What other cover is included?

Will it also cover your outboard or auxilary motor if it falls over the side, even if not fitted with a safety device? Will it cover towing of your boat in an emergency? What about cover for a boat left unattended or moored temporarily off a beach? How about equipment on your boat eg skiing, diving, fishing etc. Make sure you read the details and the wording and find out how much you would get back for the items that are important to you.

5. Do they have a no claims bonus?

If you are a very safe boat operator and unlikely to come across other boats then this discount could make a huge difference in the long term. So make sure you compare these between companies.

6. Do they offer multi boat discounts?

Maybe you have a few boats and insuring them all with one company could save you money

7. Excess and Age limits

What sort of excess will you have to pay? Does the age of the driver make any difference and do they need to be listed on the policy t be covered?  Make sure you know exactly what your policy covers.

8. What about unforeseen things?

Will it cover you for volunteer marine rescue, recovery, detention, salvage charges or wreck removal.

9. Does it include Legal liability?

Does the legal liability cover damage to other people’s property and to other people who may be injured as a result of an accident?

Motorcycle insurance is very important, so please check what your policy does cover and what it does not cover. As this is often more important then comparing the price of the policy
